On February 2nd, as the 2026 Spring Festival Travel Rush kicked off, Sasha, a young Russian woman, joined her Chinese master Cao Junping—Deputy Curator of Hunan Provincial Cultural Center and National First-Class Artist—in wielding writing brushes at Changsha South Railway Station, extending New Year blessings to returning travelers. This marks the third consecutive year Sasha has participated in the event. Her calligraphic skills have become increasingly proficient, with auspicious phrases leaping vividly onto red paper. Together with works by other calligraphers, her creations attracted travelers to stop, receive the blessings, and take photos as souvenirs, adding a unique warmth to their journey home during the Spring Festival Travel Rush.
Having lived in China for years, Sasha has studied Chinese calligraphy for over three years. She plans to stay in Changsha this year to celebrate the Spring Festival with her family, who will soon arrive in China. Travelers praised the Russian woman’s clerical script works highly, describing the special New Year gifts as novel and heartwarming, and expressing pride in Chinese culture being cherished by foreign friends. It is reported that the Spring Festival couplet-giving activity at Changsha South Railway Station has become a tradition, with over 1,000 couplets and "Fu" (blessing) characters distributed this time. Cao Junping recently accepted a new Iranian disciple and stated that he will lead his students to more venues in the future, allowing Chinese calligraphy art to spread across the world in a more vivid and dynamic way.
